Campaign launched to raise $50 million for research

November 5, 2014

Researchers gathered along with corporate and community supporters at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum this past Wednesday for the unveiling of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation’s most ambitious research campaign to date: TLR. TLR stands for “Tender Loving Research” and gets to the heart of why we do research, which is to improve the lives of patients.

The campaign goal is to raise $50 million over three years to support research at The Ottawa Hospital. It will focus on cancer, regenerative medicine and practice-changing research.

Drs. Jack Kitts, Duncan Stewart and Phil Wells were among the speakers at the dinner, accompanied by a video featuring Dr. Marc Rodger. Former patient Tina Ceroni described how research played a key role in the life-saving treatment she received from Dr. Harry Atkins. Over the course of the next few years, the foundation will be telling the stories of researchers and patients to show the human connection to our science. If you have any you would like to share, please contact Paddy Moore.

On October 30, Dr. Shawn Aaron joined Steve Madely in-studio for an hour, with Drs. Jack Kitts and Duncan Stewart on the phone, to discuss Ottawa research on the world stage, at home, and as a way to attract and retain the best and brightest researchers. You can listen to the interview here.
