New research reporting guideline helps compare multiple treatments
July 29, 2015
How do the dozens of available hypertension drugs stack up against each other? What about anti-depressants? And anti-bleeding drugs? These are just a few of the important questions that Dr.
Brian Hutton
and his colleagues are answering through network meta-analysis – a relatively new kind of study that allows researchers to mathematically combine the results of many clinical trials of different treatments. And now, Dr. Hutton, Dr.
David Moher
and others are helping to advance the field as a whole with the publication of the
PRISMA extension statement for network meta-analyses
in Annals of Internal Medicine. As described in a
supporting editorial
, this “much-anticipated” guideline “will bring consistency, clarity and transparency to the reporting of evidence from networks of trials that present the benefits and harms among competing interventions.”
