Dr. Stiell has received approval for 1 of only 2 projects chosen for implementation by The Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario (CAHO), for the Canadian C-Spine Rule Demonstration Project.
Dr. Lisa Calder was recently awarded a PSI Grant for "Improving the Safety of Patients who Present to The Emergency Department With Respiratory Distress: An Analysis of Adverse Events".
The new "Doctor's Channel" website by Reuters Health has produced a number of videos about OHRI / TOH / uOttawa research in recent months. The videos have focused on research on the treatment of spine injuriesby paramedics (by Dr. Christian Vaillancourt).

The National Post story on the important role of clinical decision rules in improving health care and reducing costs. The story notes that the Ottawa Ankle Rules are “among the most successful diagnostic models”, credited with reducing ankle x-rays by 40%. The Ottawa Ankle Rules were developed in the 1990s by Dr. Ian Stiell and others in the OHRI / uOttawa Emergency Medicine Research Group. They are now widely used across the country and beyond.
