Dr. Ian Stiell is Professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa, Canada. He is an internationally recognized health services researcher in emergency medicine, holds a Distinguished Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and is a member of the U.S. Institute of Medicine. He is well known for the development of clinical decision rules (Ottawa Ankle and Canadian C-Spine Rules), the conduct of clinical trials in cardiac arrest, and prehospital research (the OPALS Study).

Dr. Wells is Director, Cardiovascular Research Methods Centre at the Ottawa Heart Research Corporation of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and a Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Community Medicine at the University of Ottawa. His research interests are in the design and analysis of clinical trials, statistical methodology related to health care delivery, systematic reviews and meta-analysis, economic evaluations and the development and assessment of decision support technologies for patients and practitioners.

Dr. Jeff Perry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa, Canada. He is a health services researcher who has been recently recognized internationally by the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine with a young investigator award for excellence and great promise in emergency medicine research. He holds a Career Scientist award from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. His main area of interest is in the development of clinical decision rules for neurological conditions in the emergency department (Subarachnoid Hemorrhage and Ischemic Stroke).

Dr. Vaillancourt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, University of Ottawa, a Scientist of the Clinical Epidemiology Unit, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. Highlights form Dr. Vaillancourt's contributions in the field of cardiac arrest research include the publication of the first national statistics on cardiac arrest and EMS services in Canada, the completion of a national survey on cardiac arrest surveillance, and participation in the 2010 International Meeting on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiovascular care, Dallas, 2010. Dr. Vaillancourt currently focuses his research on promotion of bystander CPR, dispatch-assisted CPR instructions, and CPR quality.

Jamie Brehaut is Associate Scientist at the OHRI, Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Community Medicine at the University of Ottawa, Associate Director of the Bell Patient Decision Support Laboratory at the Ottawa Hospital, and a Career Scientist with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. A cognitive psychologist trained at McMaster University, he is studying how cognitive factors affect decisions made by people in health care settings, including patients, physicians, and policy-makers. Other interests include the application of decision support tools, Web-based decision support, computer usability methods, cognitive biases and the communication of risk, and issues of caregiver health.

Dr. Lisa Calder is an Associate Scientist with the Emergency Medicine Research Group at the Clinical Epidemiology Unit of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. She completed her medical degree at the University of Western Ontario, her Royal College residency in emergency medicine and Masters of Science in Epidemiology at the University of Ottawa. Her previous research has included work on clinical practice guidelines, blood transfusions and traumatic corneal abrasions. The focus of her current research program is patient safety including previous work on adverse events in the emergency department.

Dr. Gabriel Blecher is an Emergency Medicine Research Fellow currently enrolled in the Masters of Epidemiology and Community Medicine Program at the University of Ottawa. He graduated from the University of Melbourne medical school and completed his emergency medicine training in Melbourne, Australia. His research interests include emergency department ultrasound, trauma and resuscitation.

Dr. Shawn Dowling is an Emergency Medicine Research Fellow currently enrolled in the Masters of Epidemiology and Community Medicine Program at the University of Ottawa. He is also currently in his fourth year of the Royal College Emergency Medicine residency program in Calgary, AB and will be returning there in May of 2008 to complete his training. He completed his medical degree at the University of Ottawa. His prior research has included work on pediatric orthopedic injuries and compliance with cardiac risk assessment. His current interests are in prehospital care and out-of-hospital cardiac arrests.

Cathy Clement is the Research Manager for the Emergency Medicine Research Program at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI). She has been working within the OHRI for over 15 years. Cathy has been intricately involved in all of the in-hospital Clinical Decision Rule studies over the years and most currently, is directing 2 multi-centre studies: The Emergency Department Nursing C-Spine Implementation Study, and the Clinical Decision Rules for Acute Dyspnea Study. As well, she is heavily involved in managing the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (ROC) studies.

Jane joined the OPALS Prehospital Research division of the Clinical Epidemiology program in October of 2003 as a research assistant. Jane is a Health Record Administrator who has an extensive background in Health Records with a large component of her experience being in Emergency Patient Information. Since joining the OPALS Prehospital Research Collaboration, she has worked on the OPALS Chest Pain Study, the Prehospital C-Spine Rule Validation by Paramedics Study, and the OPALS Trauma Study. Jane is currently involved with the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium Trauma Studies.

Manya Charette joined the Emergency Medicine Research Program in October 2007 as a Research Coordinator. She is currently working with Dr. Christian Vaillancourt on several studies dealing with bystander CPR and dispatch-assisted CPR instructions. Manya hold a Masters of Science (Health Research Methodology) from McMaster University. Her previous research work has been in the development of systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines in oncology.

Ann Kasaboski joined the Emergency Medicine Research Program in January 2009 as a Research Coordinator. She works with Dr. Christian Vaillancourt on several projects including a national survey on CPR, dispatch-assisted CPR instructions, in-hospital defibrillation, and pre-hospital care for cervical spine injuries. Ann has a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Studies from the University of Waterloo. She has experience in research coordination for national clinical trials in haematology, evaluation of genetic services utilization, and pharmacology development in oncology.

Ghislaine joined the OPALS Team in March 2008 to work on the ROC Studies - Cardiac Epistry and ROC PRIMED. She graduated from the Health Record Administrator Program in 1979 and has ten years experience in the field. Ghislaine has previously worked on the CAOS Study ( Canadian Acetaminophen Overdose Study) in 2003 and has most recently worked as a Data Analyst for The Ottawa Hospital Trauma unit.

Stan joined the OPALS group in September 2009. He is currently working with Dr. Ian Stiell on ROC (Resuscitation Outcome Consortium) Studies. He oversees the logistical implementation of ongoing clinical trials from the pre-hospital setting. He is currently a full time Advanced Care Paramedic with the Ottawa Paramedics Service currently reassigned to the OPALS staff. He brings twenty plus years of experience in the pre-hospital setting including teaching and critical care flight.

Julie O’Brien joined the Clinical Epidemiology Team in November 2008 as the Administrative Assistant to Ian G. Stiell. Prior to that, she spent 13 years working for various Cabinet Ministers and MPs on Parliament Hill as an Executive Assistant.

Connor Sheehan joined the Emergency Medicine Research Program in April, 2008. Connor is the primary data collector for the C-Spine implementation study and Respiratory Distress study. As well, he is currently working on the logistics and material handling of the ROC PRIMED Cardiac Arrest trial and Hypertonic Saline trial. Connor has a bachelors of arts degree with honours Geography concentrating in demography and globalization and has written a thesis on the Geographic prevalence of asthma.

Jane joined the Emergency Medicine Research Program at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) in June 2008. She currently works with Dr. Jeff Perry and manages two multicentre national studies developing Clinical Decision Rules including the Subarachnoid Haemorrhage (SAH) Study (Phase II) and the High Risk Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) Study (Phase I). She was a research coordinator in a team that developed of a web based referral system for rehabilitation patients and developed two novel decision aids. She holds an Honours Science Degree from the University of Guelph and a Masters of Educational Administration from the University of Ottawa as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Concordia University in Montreal.

Juanita is also a full-time staff nurse at The Ottawa Hospital – Civic Campus Emergency Department. She holds a bachelor degree in nursing from University of Manitoba.

My-Linh has several years of SAS programming and data management experience and has worked for the Clinical Epidemiology Program for more than 10 years. She has worked on a wide range of research projects for the CEP, including Randomization Clinical Trials, Chart Reviews, Surveys, and Perspective Cohort Study. However, her primary area of work has been with Dr. Ian Stiell and the health services research in emergency medicine. This includes work in pre-hospital and in-hospital care, clinical decision rules, cardiac resuscitation, and pediatric emergencies.
