Scientist in the Spotlight: Dr. Kumanan Wilson
February 4, 2009
As a Scientist at the OHRI and Canada Research Chair in Public Health Policy, Dr. Kumanan Wilson is focusing on policy development in public health with an emphasis on health protection. His research aims to provide a framework and clear recommendations to Canadian policy-makers seeking to avoid the types of problems that have threatened our public health system in the past. Areas of interest include the transmission of HIV and hepatitis C through infected blood products, pandemic preparedness and immunization policy. Dr. Wilson’s multi-disciplinary research approach focuses on governance and the use of scientific information in decision-making around health risks.
Dr. Wilson is also an Internal Medicine Specialist practicing at The Ottawa Hospital, an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa and a Research Associate at Queen’s University’s Institute of Intergovernmental Relations. He recently received a Desi News Grant’s Community Achievement Award for high achievers in Toronto’s South Asian community.
