Early-career researchers bring fresh perspective to challenge of high blood pressure

October 12, 2016

Dr. Dylan Burger is one of 20 researchers chosen from around the world to participate in a Commission on Hypertension, organized by The Lancet, a top medical journal. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, affects 30 percent of adults and is the number one cause of death globally. The Commission, which includes early-career researchers from multiple disciplines, developed a list of 10 priority actions to reduce the global burden of hypertension. These include improving access to blood pressure monitors and medications, as well as using new technologies to promote healthier lifestyles. Their next task is to spearhead a campaign to encourage governments and other stakeholders to implement the recommendations. See news release or full article.
