What We Do

According to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, in 2015 about 8,900 Canadians will be diagnosed with lymphoma. Most will be diagnosed with non-Hodgkin Lymphoma - an expected 7,900 people. Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma (CTCL) is the most common primary lymphoma of the skin. CTCL forms a group of non-Hodgkin lymphomas where malignant T cells are localized to the skin.

Our laboratory investigates the molecular pathogenesis of Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphomas (Mycosis Fungoides and Sézary Syndrome) as well as other skin cancers including Basal Cell and Squamous Cell Carcinomas. Our group studies expression and function of Cancer Testis genes and Embryonic Stem Cell Genes in CTCL and ways to employ them as therapeutic targets. We are also elucidating the role of STAT signaling pathways in the pathogenesis of this malignancy. Furthermore, we are analyzing gene expression profiling in CTCL patients in order to develop a novel diagnostic/prognostic test to be used in the clinics. In addition, we collaborate with OHRI scientists in order to investigate the use of oncolytic viruses to treat this and other skin cancers.
