Research Interests

Dr. Sood's research aims to improve the prevention of kidney disease. His previous work has involved measuring the disparities and outcomes among Aboriginal people with kidney disease. Currently, Dr. Sood's research is focused around study variations in kidney disease and care across the country, and investigating underlying health, social, and policy factors that may be contributing to these differences. The aim of his work is to inform health policies that will be used to address differences in care to ensure that all Canadians receive optimal kidney disease prevention and care.

Brief Biography

Dr. Sood is an Associate Scientist in the Clinical Epidemiology Program at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, and Adjunct Scientist with the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences. He currently holds the Jindal Research Chair for Prevention of Kidney Disease from the University of Ottawa. Dr. Sood received his MD and training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology from the University of Toronto. He then went on to practice as a Clinical Nephrologist before becoming Medical Director of Hemodialysis at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. In 2010, he was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Sood is a member of the Canadian Society of Nephrology Council, vice-chair of a Canadian Knowledge Translation committee (CANN-NET), and the founder and Deputy Editor of Canadian Journal of Kidney Health and Disease - the first Canadian kidney nephrology journal and the official journal of the Canadian Society of Nephrology. He is currently studying Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Ottawa.
