MAJOR RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
Doug Coyle's research has centered on the methods of conducting economic evaluation of health care interventions. In particular he is interested in methodological issues in the conduct of economic evaluation, particularly relating to uncertainty and variability. In addition, he is interested in economics in relation to the funding of research.
Doug's research is of a multi-disciplinary nature and has led to collaboration with a wide body of researchers. He is currently a member of the Committee to Evaluate Drugs; the Ontario committee which determines which drugs are reimbursed through the Ministry of Health's drug formulary. He has been a member of both the Scientific Advisory Panel of the Canadian Coordinating Office of Health Technology Assessment and the NCIC-CTG Working Group on Economic Analysis in Clinical Trials. He is also an advisor to the Cochrane Musculoskeletal Review Group.
MAJOR TEACHING ACTIVITIES
Doug teaches two courses within the Department of Epidemiology and Community Medicine's MSc in Epidemiology program: Health Economic Evaluation and Health Policy. He has supervised numerous graduate students and currently sits on the department's Graduate Studies Committee.
