Objectives:
- To assess the association between serum folate in the second
trimester and the occurrence of placenta- mediated adverse
pregnancy outcomes: preeclampsia, placental abruption, fetal
death and fetal growth restriction.
- To determine if the risk of placenta-mediated adverse pregnancy
outcomes among carriers of the defective MTHFR gene increase
compared with non carriers.
- To determine the correlation between low maternal serum folate
in the second trimester, the defective MTHFR gene, elevated
fasting plasma homocysteine in the second trimester and the
increased risk of placenta-mediated adverse pregnancy outcomes.
Recruitment Goal:
3000
Duration of Study:
October 2002 to October 2004 |
