
International Fellowships: Dr Tan is our first
international fellow. He is a post-doctorate fellow in perinatal
epidemiology whose primarily focus is on database studies of
twin pregnancies. He graduated from medical school in China,
he went on to obtain a master's degree in epidemiology in 1988.
From China and went on to Osaka University in Japan to pursue
a research fellowship in infectious epidemiology. Dr. Tan has
been an active member of the Chinese Society of Epidemiology
since 1985. He has organized and participated in several workshops
on research and teaching methodology in epidemiology throughout
China. In June 2002, Dr. Tan came to the University of Ottawa
as an international fellow in perinatal epidemiology. He has
built an exceptional record in research, obtaining peer-reviewed
grants of over 1 million dollars. To his list of accomplishments,
he has published 55 peer-reviewed papers and edited 11 books/book
chapters.
Student internships: We offer summer student
internships for individuals from various backgrounds in the health
sciences. Our objective is to have the student function within
the research team to gain practical experience.
Mentorship: Medical students, ob/gyn residents,
maternal-fetal medicine fellows, and nurses are provided with
mentorship and opportunities to conduct research within the OMNI
scope of research. They are encouraged to embrace all aspects
of research from ethics, implementation and recruitment strategies
to study design and statistical analysis. |
