Centre for Research on Age-Related Blindness

More than two million Canadians suffer from age-related vision loss due to conditions such as macular degeneration and in 25 years that number is expected to triple. As Canada’s population ages, there has been a strong push to increase our understanding of age-related blindness and, even more so, to find a cure. The Centre for Research on Age-Related Blindness is set to play a lead role in these efforts. The Centre is part of the OHRI Vision Program and the University of Ottawa Eye Institute, based at the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital. With new space, improved resources and the latest technology, the Centre will offer hope to millions of people who currently suffer from some form of age-related vision loss. Clinical researchers moved into the new facility in 2007 and basic science researchers are expected to follow in the next phase.
