CIHR profiles OHRI / uOttawa researchers involved in mentorship program

May 4, 2009

Sixteen-year-old Robyn Vezina and 28-year-old Dr. Alison Hosey were both interested in space and the solar system before they got into biology. They were paired up through the Synapse Mentorship Program run by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. The partnership helped Vezina place first in the recent Ottawa Regional Science Fair, for her project testing the antibacterial effects of honey. Dr. Hosey is a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Marjorie Brand's lab at the Sprott Centre for Stem Cell Research. Her research involves blood cell development, cancer and stem cells. See CIHR's profile of the pair here.
