September 1, 2020

Dr. Daniel McIsaacTwo researchers from The Ottawa Hospital affiliated with the University of Ottawa received Early Researcher Awards from the Ontario Research Fund.

Dr. Daniel McIsaac was awarded $150,000 for a multidisciplinary approach to improve surgical outcomes for older people with frailty. Frailty is a combination of chronic conditions and reduced physical and mental health that makes people more vulnerable after surgery. About 40 percent of individuals aged 65 and over live with frailty.

Dr. Tiago Mestre was awarded $150,000 to help set the stage for the implementation of a patient-centered approach to Parkinson’s Disease care in Ontario. This new model aims to shift care delivery from outpatient clinics to home-based and community-centered health care. It includes personalized care plans and tools that empower individuals with Parkinson’s as the owners of their health.Dr. Tiago MestreDr. Tiago Mestre

These awards are made possible thanks to $50,000 in matching funds from generous donations to The Ottawa Hospital.
