Bio

Dr. Allan is a clinician-researcher with the Transplant & Cellular Therapy Program at TOH, the University of Ottawa and in the Cancer Research Program at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. He is a graduate of Queen's University and completed residency at the University of Toronto, Western University and transplant training at the Maisonneuve-Rosement Hospital in Montreal.

Research Goals and Interests

Ongoing research addresses cellular therapy, hematopoietic transplantation, and the evaluation of emerging advanced therapeutic technologies. Projects focus on evidence synthesis, regulatory readiness, and donor aspects related to the use of gene editing, iPSC‑derived products, extracellular vesicles, and engineered immune cells. He has also contributed extensively to optimizing donor registries and cord blood banking systems to improve access to hematopoietic transplantation for more patients. Dr. Allan’s work bridges clinical practice, translational science, and global policy, supporting the safe and effective adoption of next‑generation cell and gene therapies.

Research activities focus on hematopoietic stem cell donation, transplantation and biology and on translational research in cell-based regenerative therapy. My program has attracted medical trainees at all levels, graduate students and postgraduate fellows. We are working to bridge the gap between discoveries in the lab and making a difference for patients.
