Dr. Andrew Seely awarded patent for system that may allow earlier diagnosis of organ failure and systemic infection

August 8, 2013

Dr. Andrew Seely has been awarded a U.S. patent for inventing a system that may help doctors diagnose certain life-threatening conditions much earlier. Dr. Seely’s system uses complex mathematics to analyze how patterns of variation of patient vital signs (such as heart rate and breathing rate variability) change over time. This information can provide early warning signs of systemic infection and impending organ failure in high-risk patients. This is the second U.S. patent awarded to Dr. Seely and his Dynamical Analysis Laboratory for this work. Dr. Seely has founded Therapeutic Monitoring Systems to advance this research.
