Cochrane Canada receives 2013 CIHR Knowledge Translation Award: Ottawa-based Centre puts the best knowledge in the hands of health care providers professionals and patients as part of international collaboration
December 2, 2013
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is pleased to announce that Cochrane Canada is the recipient of the 2013 CIHR Knowledge Translation Award. The Canadian Cochrane Centre Director and researcher at the University of Ottawa and the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute,
Dr. Jeremy Grimshaw
, will accept the prize at the Canadian Health Research Awards ceremony hosted this evening by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, at Rideau Hall.
Cochrane Canada received this prestigious award in recognition of its efforts over the past 20 years to provide physicians and patients with the most up to date and credible source of information to guide their treatment choices. The group, under the leadership of Dr. Grimshaw, has made significant contribution to global health knowledge as the Canadian partner in the international Cochrane Collaboration. Together, Cochrane Canada Review Groups have authored 10% of the reviews published in The Cochrane Library, a source of high quality, independent evidence to inform health care decision making.
“We are pleased to recognize the outstanding work of Cochrane Canada with this award,” said Dr. Alain Beaudet, President of CIHR. “Their authoritative systematic reviews are helping integrate evidence-based practice into health care.”
The CIHR Knowledge Translation Award honours and supports teams or organizations that make an outstanding contribution to the health of Canadians or to the health system through exemplary knowledge translation. It is one of four awards that will be presented at the ceremony this evening.
