Researchers receive top honours in 2007
November 15, 2007
Researchers at the OHRI received special recognition from local, national and international colleagues in 2007. As indicated by the following examples, these individuals are leaders in areas such as vision, neuroscience, cancer and clinical epidemiology. While conducting outstanding research, they are also training the next generation of scientists, providing exceptional medical care and making important contributions to society in a variety of ways.
Dr. Seymour Brownstein
received the
Award of Excellence in Ophthalmology
from the Canadian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Karim Damji
received the
Canada Day and Muslim Heritage Award
from the Association of Progressive Muslims of Canada.
Kimberly Corace received the
Ronald Melzack Health Psychology Award
from the Canadian Psychological Association.
Dr. May Griffith
received the
Research Award
from OCRI Life Sciences.
Dr. Jeremy Grimshaw
was elected as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
Dr. Antoine Hakim
received the
Thomas Willis Award
from the American Stroke Association and the
Award for Medical Achievement
from MEDEC. He was also named an
Officer of the Order of Canada
.
Dr. Bruce Jackson
received the Castroviejo Medal from the Cornea Society.
Dr. Michael McBurney
received the
Dr. J. David Grimes Research Career Achievement Award
from the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
Kelly McClellan received the
Dr. Ronald G. Worton Researcher in Training Award
from the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
Dr. Michael O’Connor received the
Dr. Ray Buncic Humanitarian Award
from the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at the Hospital for Sick Children.
Dr. Ruth Slack
received the
Researcher of the Year Award
from the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
Dr. Ian Stiell
was appointed to the rank of
Distinguished University Professor
at the University of Ottawa.
Dr. Barbara Vanderhyden
was named one of the
top 100 most powerful women in Canada
by the Women's Executive Network.
