International study helps identify high risk pregnancies earlier
December 25, 2010
Dr. Andrée Gruslin
helped develop and test a new approach for identifying pregnant women with pre-eclampsia who have a high risk of developing fatal or life-threatening complications. The new approach, called the fullPIERS model, involves calculating a risk score based on several clinical factors and blood test results. In a large international study, this approach was able to identify more than 75% of high risk women up to seven days before the onset of serious complications. The research could help prevent these complications, and also reduce the use of some redundant blood tests. See
