$6M from Canadian Institutes of Health Research

Ottawa Hospital Research Institute scientists were awarded 10 Operating Grants worth approximately $6M in the most recent CIHR competition! The successful Principal Investigators include Drs. Jim Dimitroulakos (cancer combination therapies), Doug Manuel (cardiovascular population health), Shawn Marshall (driving and aging), David Picketts (developmental disorders), Michael Rudnicki, Jeff Dilworth, Lynn Megeney, Theodore Perkins (cancer stem cells), Janet Squires (knowledge translation), William Stanford (cellular aging and stem cells), Nuch Tanphaichitr and Jonathan Angel (anti-HIV contraception), Mark Tyndall (HIV risk in Ottawa) and Barbara Vanderhyden (ovarian cancer stem cells).

In addition, the following OHRI-affiliated researchers are Principal Investigators or Co-Principal Investigators on grants that will be administered at another institution: Drs. Greg Knoll (kidney and heart disease, UBC), Lisa Calder (pediatric emergency department safety, CHEO) and Martin Chasen (palliative cancer care, Bruyère).

Finally, Drs. John Bell and Jean-Simon Diallo were awarded a Proof-of-Principle grant for viral manufacturing. Grant summaries are available through CIHR’s Funded Research Database. We will profile one of these grants in more detail each week.
