$800,000 research grant to better understand developmental disorders

April 9, 2014

Dr. David Picketts has been granted more than $835,000 from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to further his research into developmental disorders and intellectual disabilities. Dr. Picketts and his team are studying how the ATRX gene organizes chromosomes and keeps cells functioning properly. Understanding how the ATRX gene affects cell development will help the medical community to better understand how developmental disorders and intellectual disabilities occur. The research could also lead to treatments for complex intellectual disabilities. Further details, including a list of co-investigators, can be found in CIHR’s Funding Decision Database.
