Creating 3D cancer maps to improve treatment

June 9, 2014

Dr. Shawn Malone and his team have developed a novel way to build three-dimensional cancer maps to help oncologists with post-surgical treatment of prostate cancer. By creating detailed maps of the removed tumour in the prostate, physicians can determine exact locations of sites where the cancer has reached outside of the prostate, allowing targeted radiotherapy after surgery to focus on higher risk areas. Dr. Malone believes that this technique of three-dimensional mapping could become an important clinical and research tool for urologists, pathologists, radiologists and oncologists. See details in the Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine.
