Record attendance at The Ottawa Hospital Gala in support of research
November 11, 2014
A record 640 people came out to celebrate groundbreaking research at The Ottawa Hospital Gala on November 1. In the past year, generous individuals and corporations in Ottawa raised a record $9.7 million in support of research taking place at the institute, including $400,000 raised by this year’s Gala. The researchers honoured this year are Dr.
Marc Rodger
, who received the Chrétien Researcher of the Year Award for his work into blood clot treatments affecting pregnant women; Dr.
Barbara Vanderhyden
who received the Grimes Career Achievement Award for her dedication to ovarian cancer research and leadership in fostering collaborative relationships in the field; and Dr.
Matías Alvarez-Saavedra
, who won the Worton Trainee of the Year Award for his work exploring how cells regenerate in the damaged brain and the brain’s ability to rewire and repair itself. Read the

About the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute
The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) is the research arm of The Ottawa Hospital and is an affiliated institute of the University of Ottawa, closely associated with the university’s Faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences. OHRI includes more than 1,700 scientists, clinical investigators, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and staff conducting research to improve the understanding, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human disease.
