Dr. Rashmi KotharyDr. Rashmi Kothary has been recognized as one of Canada’s top health and biomedical scientists with his induction as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. A globally respected leader in neuromuscular research, Dr. Kothary has made groundbreaking discoveries in conditions such as spinal muscular atrophy and multiple sclerosis.
His lab focuses on understanding how muscle and nerve cells are maintained or damaged and finding ways to reduce the impact of neuromuscular diseases, laying the foundation for new therapeutic strategies. Dr. Kothary has also provided outstanding leadership at OHRI, serving as Deputy Scientific Director/Associate Scientific Director from 2001 to 2025. As a senior scientist in OHRI’s Regenerative Medicine Program and professor in the University of Ottawa’s Departments of Medicine and Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Dr. Kothary has played a pivotal role in fostering scientific excellence and training the next generation of scientists.
