Gout, crystal arthritis, clinical epidemiology of rheumatic diseases, behcets disease

I graduated in Medicine (and intercalated BSc) at the University of Wales College of Medicine. In April 2023, I was appointed as Full Time Academic Staff Rheumatologist (Assistant Professor) at The Ottawa Hospitals, Canada. I completed Rheumatology residency in Liverpool and subsequently gained an academic fellowship from the NIHR School for Primary Care Research to undertake a doctoral thesis at Keele University (UK), researching the Health Related Quality of Life in Gout. I am a general rheumatologist with a special interest in auto-inflammatory diseases such as crystal arthritis and Behcets syndrome.  I have published in peer reviewed journals and presented nationally and internationally. My current research is investigating the prevalence and incidence of Behcets disease in the UK in the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) primary care database as well as in the Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) secondary care dataset. This has been funded by the Royal College of Physicians (London, UK), Behcets UK and Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (UK). My next research project will investigate the prevalence of gout specific US findings in those with Psoriatic arthritis, and it's implications in clinical practice. I have been an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Institute of Inflammation and Ageing, University of Birmingham with regular medical undergraduate teaching commitments and continue to teach at undergraduate and post graduate level at University of Ottawa Medical School and TOH.
