Danielle Rice honoured for research to address the opioid crisis

October 22, 2019

PhD Candidate Danielle Rice will receive an honourable mention for the Worton Researcher in Training Award for her impressive contributions to mental health research during her two years as a visiting fellow at The Ottawa Hospital. During the third year of her PhD in clinical psychology at McGill University she decided to grow her skills as a researcher by moving to Ottawa to learn specialized knowledge synthesis and meta-research with Dr. Brian Hutton’s group. Her contributions include conducting the first network meta-analysis of psychosocial treatments for opioid use disorder. The evidence from this study has influenced some health-care centres to add new treatment options for this condition. In partnership with people with lived experience, she is also helping to develop a standard set of outcomes that should be measured and reported in all opioid use disorder trials, which will help future meta-analyses in this area. Danielle has established herself as a strong independent thinker and leader, and has been a mentor to many junior trainees.
