Dr. Ian
Graham is Senior Scientist in the Methods and Implementation Research Program
of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and Distinguished University
Professor in the School of Epidemiology & Public Health at the University
of Ottawa. From 2006-2012 he was on an interchange with the Canadian Institutes
of Health Research where he held the position of Vice-President of the
Knowledge Translation and Public Outreach. He is a health sociologist by
training with extensive experience as a health services researcher and
implementation scientist. His
research focuses on knowledge mobilization (the process of research use) and
conducting applied and fundamental research on strategies to increase
implementation of evidence-informed practice (implementation science). He has
published over 400 peer reviewed articles and developed multiple frameworks and
models such as the Ottawa Model of Research Use, ADAPTE, Knowledge to Action
Cycle and the Implementation Roadmap. He is co-editor of Knowledge Translation
in Health Care (2013, 2nd edition); Evaluating the Impact of Implementing
Evidence-based Practice (2010); CAN-IMPLEMENT©: Planning for
Best-Practice Implementation (2014); and Turning Knowledge into Action:
Practical Guidance on How to Do Integrated Knowledge Translation Research
(2104); Research Coproduction in Healthcare (2022) and co-author of Knowledge
Translation in Nursing and Healthcare. A Roadmap to Evidence-informed Practice
(2021). Dr. Graham was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Diamond Jubilee
Medal (2002) for contributions to research into the experiences of adults and children with celiac
disease (the Canadian Celiac Association), the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012) for his leadership
contributions to CIHR and for changing the way research knowledge is used and
demonstrating to funding agencies around the world how to move knowledge into
action (CIHR), and the King Charles III Coronation Medal (2025) for
contributions to research (Universities Canada). He is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, New York
Academy of Medicine and Royal Society of Canada.
