Brief Biography

Dr. Marlise Santos is an Associate Professor with the Department of Radiology at the University of Ottawa. She offers our community a decade of training in neurosciences, including six years of formal education in endovascular neurosurgery (or interventional neuroradiology) by the very best in her field with an International Masters Diploma in Neurovascular Diseases (2006).

Dr. Santos is a warm and respected physician member of the neuroradiology and neuro-interventional sections at The Ottawa Hospital. She has been the principal investigator for several studies endorsed by The Ottawa Hospital and Brain and Mind Research Institutes. She advocates for patient safety and excellence in clinical care and education. Dr. Santos received a Master of Public Health and Clinical Epidemiology from Harvard University (2018). She received the Best Radiology Teacher Award for the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Medicine Undergraduate Medical Education program (2012), The Ottawa Hospital's Patient Safety Star Award (2014), and the Neuroradiology Staff Teacher of the Year Award (2023).

Dr. Santos has nearly two decades of professional experience in neuroimaging and endovascular surgery at your disposal. She offers individualized and compassionate medical and professional support to those suffering from complex conditions such as acute stroke (brain clot aspiration), aneurysm, fistula, vascular malformations (catheter embolization, coiling, stenting, flow diversion, etc.); vessel stenosis (stenting, angioplasty); venous "angiomas" (sclerotherapy); vascular tumours (catheter embolization); to name a few. Dr. Santos' clinical neurology background and diagnostic neuroradiology skills allow her to provide integrated clinical care and expert support with the interpretation of MRI and CT scans. She strives to ensure you understand and feel involved in every step of your medical care.
