Biographical Sketch
Dr. Calder completed her medical degree at the University of Western Ontario, her Royal College residency in emergency medicine and Master of Science in Epidemiology at the University of Ottawa. Her previous research has included work on clinical practice guidelines, blood transfusions and traumatic corneal abrasions. The focus of her current research program is patient safety; specifically, reducing adverse events in the emergency department. Dr. Calder's Master of Science in Epidemiology included a thesis which was a prospective cohort study examining adverse events among high acuity patients in the emergency department. She was supervised by Drs. Ian Stiell and Alan Forster. The Society of Academic Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medicine Patient Safety Foundation’s Emergency Medicine Patient Safety Fellowship afforded Dr. Calder the opportunity to explore a patient safety research project examining disposition decision making in the emergency department. She was mentored by Drs. Ian Stiell, Alan Forster, Patrick Croskerry and Karen Cosby. Dr. Calder also completed the American Hospital Association and National Patient Safety Foundation; Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship.
